How to Do a Wall Push-Up (Easiest Push-Up)
If a full push-up feels impossible, the wall push-up is the perfect place to start — the easiest version, ideal for beginners, older adults or anyone returning to exercise.
How to do a wall push-up
- Stand facing a wall, arms extended, hands on the wall at shoulder height and width.
- Step your feet back slightly so you’re leaning in.
- Bend your elbows to bring your chest toward the wall, keeping your body straight.
- Push back to the start. Keep your core braced and body in a line.
How to progress
- As it gets easy, step your feet further back (steeper = harder).
- Then move to incline push-ups (hands on a table), then knee push-ups, then full push-ups.
- This is the first rung of the push-up progression.
- Practise often — frequency builds pushing strength fast.
The wall push-up is the perfect rung one of the push-up ladder — step your feet back to make it harder, then progress toward the floor.
