The Push/Pull/Legs Split, Explained
Push/Pull/Legs groups your training by movement so each muscle gets hit hard, then rests. It scales from 3 to 6 days a week.
How it splits
- Push: chest, shoulders, triceps.
- Pull: back, biceps.
- Legs: quads, hamstrings, glutes, calves.
Sample weeks
3 days: Push / Pull / Legs once each. 6 days: run it twice for more volume. Beginners often do better on a full-body plan first.
Whatever the split, it only works with progressive overload and enough weekly sets per muscle.
Quick answers
Is PPL good for beginners?
It can work, but 3-day full-body often builds a better base first. Move to PPL as you add volume.
How many days is best?
Whatever you’ll sustain — 3 to 6. More days means more volume, not automatically more results.
