Electrolytes: When Water Isn’t Enough
In India’s heat you can sweat out a lot of salt — and plain water doesn’t replace it. That’s where electrolytes come in, minus the sugary hype.
When you actually need them
For a normal day, water and a balanced diet are enough. You benefit from electrolytes when you sweat heavily — long or intense training, hot weather, or lots of cardio — or if you feel crampy, dizzy or drained.
What matters (and a DIY mix)
- Sodium is the big one lost in sweat; potassium and magnesium help too.
- Skip sugary sports drinks for daily use.
- DIY: a glass of water + a pinch of salt + a squeeze of lemon (+ optional pinch of sugar) does the job cheaply.
Most "hydration" problems are just not drinking enough water. Nail your daily water first — here’s how much.
Quick answers
Do I need electrolytes every day?
No. Only when you sweat a lot. Otherwise a normal diet covers it.
Are expensive electrolyte brands worth it?
Rarely. Look at the sodium content — a homemade lemon-salt drink often matches them for pennies.
