Mobility

Stretching: Before or After Your Workout?

The order matters more than people realise: the right stretch at the wrong time can quietly cost you strength.

The simple rule

Why not static first

Long static holds before lifting can temporarily reduce strength and power. Save them for the cool-down or separate mobility sessions.

A proper warm-up is 5–10 minutes of easy movement plus light sets of your first exercise — not 10 minutes of touching your toes.

Quick answers

Does stretching prevent injury?

A good warm-up helps more than stretching alone. Build strength through full range for real protection.

Is mobility the same as stretching?

Related, but mobility is active control through a range — often more useful than passive stretching.
