The Anabolic Window: Real or Myth?
The "30-minute anabolic window" scared a generation of lifters into post-set shakes. The science is far more relaxed.
The reality
The window is more like several hours, not 30 minutes. What matters most is your total daily protein spread across the day — not slamming a shake the instant you finish. If you ate protein a couple of hours before training, you’re already covered.
A practical approach
- Hit ~1.6–2.2 g protein per kg bodyweight daily.
- Spread it across 3–4 meals of 25–40g each.
- Have a protein meal within a few hours after training — relaxed, not rushed.
Stop stressing the stopwatch. Total daily protein + regular meals beats obsessing over the post-set minute.
Quick answers
Will I lose gains if I don’t eat right after lifting?
No — as long as you hit your daily protein and eat within a few hours, you’re fine.
How much protein per meal?
Around 25–40g per meal is a great target for muscle building.
