Kettlebell Workout for Beginners
A single kettlebell is one of the most efficient tools in fitness — it trains strength, power and cardio at once, in a tiny space. Here’s a beginner start.
Key beginner moves
- Kettlebell swing — the signature move; a powerful hip hinge (not a squat or an arm lift).
- Goblet squat — hold the bell at your chest and squat.
- Kettlebell deadlift — learn the hinge safely.
- Overhead press and bent-over row.
A simple beginner workout
Do a circuit, 3–4 rounds: Goblet squat × 10, KB deadlift × 10, Swing × 15, Press × 8/side, Row × 10/side, resting as needed. Start with a light bell and master the hip hinge before swinging heavy — swings done with the back instead of the hips are a common cause of strain. Learn the goblet squat first.
Quick answers
Can you get fit with just a kettlebell?
Yes — one kettlebell can train strength, power and cardio for your whole body. It’s remarkably versatile for a beginner.
What weight kettlebell should a beginner use?
Roughly 8–12 kg for many women and 12–16 kg for many men to start — but prioritise learning form with a lighter bell first.
