Is Curd (Dahi) Good for Weight Loss?
Curd is one of the most underrated fat-loss foods in India — cheap, filling, high in protein and good for your gut.
Why it works
- Protein + calcium that keep you full and protect muscle.
- Probiotics that support gut health.
- Low in calories (plain, low-fat) and endlessly versatile — raita, chaas, with fruit, as a dip.
Plain curd vs Greek yoghurt
Greek yoghurt (hung curd) is strained, so it packs about double the protein per serving — great if you want more protein. Plain homemade dahi is cheaper and still excellent. Avoid sweetened, flavoured yoghurts — they’re often loaded with sugar.
Choose plain curd or Greek yoghurt — the sweetened, fruit-flavoured tubs are basically dessert.
Quick answers
Is curd good at night?
For most people it’s fine any time. If you’re prone to cold/cough sensitivity, have it earlier in the day.
Greek yoghurt or normal curd?
Greek yoghurt has more protein per serving; normal dahi is cheaper. Both are great — just keep them unsweetened.
