Are BCAAs Worth It? (Probably Not)
BCAAs have great marketing and thin science. For most people eating enough protein, they’re a waste of money.
The problem
BCAAs are three of the amino acids already in any complete protein. If you hit your daily protein (from food or whey), you’re already getting far more BCAAs than a supplement provides — with all the other aminos too.
When they might help
Edge case: training fasted with no protein for hours. Even then, a small dose of whey or a meal does the job better and cheaper.
Spend the money on enough total protein and creatine instead — those actually move the needle.
Quick answers
Do BCAAs build muscle?
Not meaningfully beyond adequate total protein. Whole protein or whey is superior.
Are they good for fasted cardio?
A minor, optional edge — most people won’t notice a difference.
